Welcome to a classic and traditional style of portraiture.
Taking inspiration from masters of the portrait, I work in a realistic,
strong and captivating style. Exclusively a portraitist I have been drawing
since age fourteen, and have always been fascinated by the human face.
Using only one pencil I am able to achieve all the subtle and strong values in a
chiaroscuro (contrasting light and shade) approach to bring the face alive; paying
close attention to light and composition, and capturing a remarkable resemblance.
My first solo show in 1994 was titled On the Sixth Day, and since then my portraits
have been exhibited and on show at locations and galleries throughout New Hampshire.
Originally from Nottingham England, but now a long-time resident of the
Granite State, I work out of my studio in Portsmouth.
